LSFRCA6 - Weekly Primary FRCA SBA course

 

This is our latest course, running one weekday evening per week for 6 weeks in the lead up to the exam.

 

Each session will focus on a specific topic that we think is either:

• Answered poorly in previous exams

• Often overlooked by trainees in their revision

• Particularly difficult

 

The 6 topics will be:

• Maternal physiology and foetal circulation

• Cardiac & renal physiology

• Electricity, damping & humidity

• Statistics

• Flow & gas laws

• Pharmacological principles

 

Each session will consist of 17 SBAs sent out to you the week before. A senior trainee will deliver a 30 minute tutorial followed by 40 minutes going through answers and explanations, including a further 3 questions that were not sent to you to test your understanding of the topic we have covered. We try to limit the sessions to 1 hour but they can last up to 90 minutes depending on the number of questions.

 

Sessions are run online on Google Meets. We understand that due to on call commitments trainees might not be able to attend all 6 sessions; we advise trying to attend as many as possible to make the most of your remaining time before the exam. I'm afraid we do not record the sessions, and the presentations will not be sent out if you are unable to attend. However, a PDF summary sheet will be sent out to everyone after each session, so that even if you do have to miss a session, you will have a summary of the topics covered.

 

It should be noted that the main focus of this course is the lecture portion, SBAs are sent out to you so you can assess your level of knowledge and any gaps in the topic both before and after, but the SBAs are not the focus. If you want more in depth SBAs and explanations/reasoning behind their answers then our half day course is the one for you.

 

Trainees attending the 6 week course will have priority booking for the half day SBA course if they wish to attend that as well.

The next course will be run before the February SBA exam. Starting on Wednesday January 7th 2026 at 7pm, and running every Wednesday through to February 11th 2026.
