Meet the Team

Dr Joe Reason
Founder & Course Director
Joe attended medical school at the University of Oxford before completing his foundation programme in North East London. During his anaesthetic training in the West Midlands, he established the first half day SBA course and recruited Sam to help further develop and deliver it.
Having completed both the FRCA and MRCP exams, he is familiar with a range of exam styles and techniques, alongside extensive experience teaching on this course, an invited lecturer with the University of Birmingham, a medical student examiner, and as an ALS and EPALS instructor.

Joe is now an ST5 anaesthetist in North Central London with an interest in Pain Medicine. Outside of work, he enjoys running with his dog, Ziggy (and occasionally his husband), learning Portuguese, and reading fiction
Dr Sam Passey
Course Director & Co-Founder
Sam is an ST5 Anaesthetic Registrar currently working at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton. He graduated with an honours degree from Keele Medical School in 2012 and has had a keen interest in medical education ever since.

Sam has an interest in Pre-Hospital medicine and is a mentor for both FUSIC Heart and Lung. He is an ALS and EPALS instructor, and has extensive teaching experience with all levels of medical professionals within the hospital environment.
​
Outside of work Sam enjoys working on his Land Rover and when it is occasionally road-worthy, even driving it.


Dr Rafi Kanji
Course Director & Co-Founder
Rafi is Senior Anaesthetic Registrar with a specialist interest in Trauma and Neuroanaesthesia. Originally from Canada, Rafi pursued his medical career in the UK, graduating with an honours degree from Keele Medical School.
He completed the FRCA in 2024. Having recently navigated these challenging exams, he possesses a current and empathetic understanding of the pressures trainees face.
He is a strong advocate for high standards in medical education and holds a Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) in Medical Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He utilised his formal educational background to design and develop the LSFRCA 6-week course.
Outside of medicine, Rafi has interests in finance and travelling to explore different cultures.
